Visceral Manipulation

written by Antoinette Newell, registered massage therapist, Level 2 Visceral Manipulation

Visceral Manipulation is a gentle manual therapy that assesses the structural relationship between the viscera (organs) and their fascial or ligamentous attachments to the various systems in the body.  It has been shown to assist functional and structural imbalances throughout the body including musculoskeletal, vascular, nervous (including the autonomic nervous system), urogenital, respiratory, digestive, and lymphatic dysfunction.

Visceral Manipulation encourages your own natural mechanisms to improve the functioning of your organs, dissipate the negative effects of stress, enhance mobility of the musculoskeletal system through the connective tissue attachments, and influence general metabolism.

Antoinette has just completed her Level 2 Visceral Manipulation through the Barral Institute.  The Barral Institute is an International organization based on the innovative manual therapies developed in clinical practice by world-renowned French Osteopath and Physical Therapist Jean-Pierre Barral.  Conditions Antoinette can assist with include acute injuries (whiplash, abdominal sport injuries), digestive disorders, chronic muscle and joint pain, and emotional concerns (anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder).

Not sure if Visceral Manipulation is right for you? Contact Antoinette at the clinic, she is more than happy to discuss how visceral manipulation can help you and what to expect of a visceral manipulation treatment.
