naturopathic medicine: more than just natural remedies
I often get asked what naturopathic physicians (NDs) do, and continuously find myself reciting a list of natural health treatments so long that even I’m bored by the end of it. I think a better way to describe naturopathic medicine is to talk about the principles behind how NDs put these treatments together.
What’s Important:
We use science to identify natural substances and gentle methods to support the body’s natural ability to heal itself. This is the basis of Natural Medicine.
Not everyone with the same condition gets the same treatment. This is called Individualized Medicine.
It’s about looking at what’s not working in the body and why. Treating from this perspective is called Functional Medicine.
We realize that health and wellness relates to the entire body, not just what hurts. Treating the whole person is Holistic Medicine.
Longer appointments give us plenty of time to discuss your health concerns and goals. I want you to leave feeling heard and understood. I call this Compassionate Medicine.
One thing I love about my job is that I get to spend time teaching people about health and wellness. I am always expanding my knowledge base with courses and seminars so I can share these new ideas with my patients. This is an Evolving Medicine.
It’s not about getting well, but about staying well and achieving optimal health. This is true Preventive Medicine.
The other questions I always get asked is what I treat. The answer to that is simply this PEOPLE!
